“A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.” ― Franz Kafka

Where to find the axe to break the frozen sea within?
In a drowned book of shipwrecked stories from the sea?

Begin the day in darkness with a glinting blade in reach,
mind churning wildly, dashed by splashing crashing violent sea.

Unearthly creatures twisting, turning in upon themselves,
unholy memories sharp and seething, thrown up from the sea.

Wield the blade to cut through comfort, that’s the way it has to be.
Let the wound be filled with salt, red salt, a shallow reddening sea.

It’s not too late to seek dry land, a thawing to flow free. Or you can drown, wash up on shore, chalked with salt of the sea.
